So, friends, we have reached the end of our concert series. This upcoming Wednesday, March 29th, will be the final concert, and it’s going to be fabulous for many reasons:

The music is all showtunes.

  1. It will feature Brian Buckner, our Trinity@Home accompanist live on site.
  2. Trinity Section leaders Bradley Baker, Melissa Toth, Kim Buehler and Tajj Crowder and our very own Lisa will all be singing, three of which have had professional careers in the musical theatre arena.
  3. THE TRINITY CHOIR will also have solos and raising their voices for “Seasons of Love” from RENT and “Do You Hear the People Sing?” From Les Miserables.
  4. It has a color theme for everyone. That’s right, its got a whole life of its own. Wear Black and White to Black and White Broadway night.
  5. Have we mentioned there will be refreshments? Themed refreshments?

Did you have a type of music as a child you were obsessed with? Though I am told by my mom that Yolanda Adams and Barbara Streisand were truly the first… (makes sense) My first true memory of really being obsessed with a piece of music was the London cast of The Phantom of the Opera. My mom, grandmother, and father all used to play it in the car, and I would sing the parts of ever character. Different voices, all the acting, etc. I’m sure it was a show in itself from the backseat.

I always kept my gold CD player and thin plastic overhead headphones with me, and would need to choose between act 1 or act 2 to listen to, as it was a double cd set. Next was the original Broadway cast recording of Wicked, followed by Grease, Hairspray, Chicago, Into the Woods and sealing the deal for a lifetime of love: Rent

Before I found my way to Trinity and back to the church, being in musicals, singing with recordings of musicals, and singing musicals with friends in person around a piano- that was my church. It was a time and place to be completely present, and heal from whatever I was experiencing at the time, and connect with the people around me. As a character, it was also a chance to step into someone else’s shoes; to think what they think and feel what they feel. And, as we know, there is simply something unique, special, and sacred about the experience of singing with other people.

So, as your Director of Music and the Arts, it is a joy to bring my two churches together for all to enjoy. As you’re preparing your calendar for this upcoming week, make Wednesday night your night at Trinity.

Making joyful noises,

Chelsie
